ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University Professor of Education Dr. Alan
L. Neville and NSU alumna Alyssa Kaye Anderson are authors of an essay featured in the fall 2013 issue of the Great Plains Quarterly.
Great Plains Quarterly is published by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Center for Great Plains Studies.
The article, “The Diminishment of the Great Sioux Reservation: Treaties, Tricks, and Time,” includes images of the Sisseton Agency from the 1930s that were loaned to NSU’s Williams Library from the National Archives in Kansas City.
The article discusses the historic treaties and acts of Congress that have impacted and diminished the land holdings of the Lakota, Dakota and Nakota people of South Dakota, and recent efforts to reacquire lost land.
Neville also is department chair for elementary, secondary and special education.
Anderson teaches seventh-grade language arts and eighth-grade journalism at the Chamberlain School District.
