Thompson named outstanding student at University Center Rapid City
ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University student Alexandria Thompson received the Outstanding NSU Undergraduate Student Award on April 27.

This award is given annually to an NSU student studying at University Center Rapid City who has demonstrated excellence in four areas: learning; classroom leadership; drive and passion; and engagement in education and the community.

Thompson, who is from Rapid City, has double majors in international business studies and banking and financial services.

Thompson was nominated by Andrew Buks, NSU program coordinator at University Center Rapid City, who teaches courses in international management and banking.

In his nomination, Buks wrote: “She hasn’t only excelled academically, but has been very active in assisting other students. She is very ambitious and enthusiastic about her education at UC-RC. Her polite and professional demeanor has made her an asset to both NSU and UC-RC.”

In her application, Thompson wrote, “I am always looking for new ways and new thing to learn; I am always hungry for new information. If I want to know more about something, I will dig deeper until my curiosity is satisfied.”

When addressing her drive and passion, she said she recently became a double major because she believes it will greatly benefit her in her future career.

“Once I make a decision, I will do everything in my power in order to get to where I want to be,” she wrote. “I truly believe you can do anything if you set your mind to it.”
