ABERDEEN, S.D. - Best-selling author Jeannette Walls enthralled a crowd
of about 1,000 in the Northern State University Johnson Fine Arts Center (JFAC) during her Nov. 20 visit.
Walls’ speech was both humorous and motivational, as she shared stories from her life and took questions from the NSU students, faculty, staff and members of the community in attendance.
Walls is author of the best-selling memoir “The Glass Castle,” which was the NSU Common Read book this fall.
After she spoke, Walls signed books in JFAC. While the author likely inspired hundreds of people at Northern, it was clear from her inscription on NSU President Jim Smith’s book that she was also inspired by NSU during her visit.
“You have a wonderful university,” she wrote. “Thank you for letting me come here and have a small role in it. It’s been a joy.”
