The scholarship, awarded by the South Dakota Board of Regents, honors the late Marlin R. Scarborough, who was president of the Board of Regents at the time of his death. The Scarborough Endowment Fund annually provides a scholarship to a student at a South Dakota public university. Applicants must have a 3.5 grade point average, demonstrate leadership potential, and be nominated by their university.
Warkenthien, who is double majoring in professional accountancy
and banking and financial services
, had a cumulative GPA of 4.0 after completing three semesters at NSU. He is the son of Kerry and Paula Warkenthien of Willow Lake and a graduate of Willow Lake High School.
Warkenthien, who will be a junior at NSU this fall, completed an internship with South Dakota Sen. Tim Johnson’s Senate Banking Committee in Washington, D.C., in 2013.
