ABERDEEN, S.D. –Northern State University and Aberdeen Area Music Teachers Association (AAMTA) are hosting the local performance of students preparing for South Dakota Music Teachers Association (SDMTA) competitions taking place early November in Brookings, S.D.

Four student-pianists from the Aberdeen area are planning to compete, and will perform a portion of their competition repertoire on Oct. 13 in Berggren Recital Hall on the NSU campus, starting at 10 a.m. The event is open to the public at no charge.

The students are Hannah Gasperich of Aberdeen (SDMTA Senior 16 category, teacher: Mary Marion); Abe Wieland of Aberdeen (SDMTA Senior 16 category, teacher: Kay Fischer); Grace Gasperich of Aberdeen (SDMTA Collegiate category, teacher: NSU’s Dr. Marcela Faflak); and Tierra Decker of Huron (MTNA Young Artist category, teacher: Faflak).

Aberdeen Area Music Teachers Association has been meeting since the mid-1980s and have been actively affiliated with MTNA (Music Teachers National Association) since 2000. It offers a variety of performance opportunities and activities for the students of its members, and several continuing education events for all interested teachers and their students every year.
