ABERDEEN, SD. The NSU Marching Wolves band has been selected as the South Dakota representative in the Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C. on January 20, 2005.

Patrick Schloss, President of NSU made the announcement today in Aberdeen.

"For the first time in the history of NSU, the Marching Wolves will participate in the Presidential Inaugural Parade on January 20th, 2005 in Washington, D.C.," said Schloss. "With this opportunity, we will show the nation and the world the excellence that exists at Northern State University, and the community of Aberdeen. Our thanks to Governor Mike Rounds and members of the current and incoming Congressional delegation for their assistance in making this a reality."

The tradition of an Inaugural parade dates back to the very first Inauguration, when George Washington took the oath of office on April 30, 1789, in New York City. Today, the parade is organized by the Joint Task Force Armed Forces Inaugural Committee, and participants are selected by the Presidential Inaugural Committee.

"It is indeed an honor for NSU to be the lone South Dakota representative at this event," said Alan Lafave, Dean of Fine Arts and Director of Bands. "To be selected one of the best in the nation is an awesome feeling, and will be an incredible experience for our students and for the entire Northern State University community."

In order to attend, the band will initiate an aggressive fundraising campaign. The band is planning several events including an indoor marching band performance on Jan 15, 2005 at the Barnett Center in Aberdeen.

The Marching Wolves are under the direction of Boyd Perkins with assistants Grant Manhart, Frederic Hemke, and James Panerio.

Performing at all home football games, annual Gypsy Day Parade, the Governor's Korean War Memorial Parade, regional marching band festivals, and professional football games including Minnesota Vikings, Denver Broncos, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers the NSU Marching Wolves have enjoyed a long and distinguished tradition of excellence. The marching band was organized by Harvey Moen in 1941 and has remained an important ambassador for Northern State University for the past six decades.
