ABERDEEN, S.D. - Northern State University has named Dr. Kristi Bockorny as the next dean of the School of Business. Bockorny assumes this leadership position as Northern begins construction of its new Business and Health Innovation Center, which will greatly enhance opportunities for students in the School of Business.

Bockorny is currently an associate professor of management and director of the NSU Honors Program. She will begin her new position on June 22.

"Dr. Bockorny brings a wealth of experience to this new position, including 14 years of full-time teaching at Northern, service as department chair of the management, marketing and MIS department, director of the NSU Honors Program, many internal leadership roles and significant service in the city of Aberdeen and the state of South Dakota," said Dr. Mike Wanous, provost and vice president for academic affairs of Northern State University. "She has also served on the Aberdeen Boys & Girls Club Board of Directors. I am excited to welcome Dr. Bockorny as our new dean and member of the academic leadership team."

"Kristi has been recruiting students to NSU for the School of Business, Honors and Athletics since she first started as a professor. The new facility being built on campus will house the School of Business, the Northern Innovation & Startup Center and the new nursing department. Kristi's ability to tell Northern's story and build relationships will be a great asset to further incorporate NSU and the community," said Zach Flakus, president and CEO of the NSU Foundation.

Bockorny earned her Ph.D. in human capital management from Bellevue University in Nebraska, her M.A. in management from Bellevue and her B.S.Ed. in business education and B.S. in finance from Northern State University. She has taught full time in the management and marketing program at Northern since 2010.

"I am honored to be selected as the next dean of the School of Business," Bockorny said. "There is so much excitement and anticipation with the new building and curriculum. The School of Business has outstanding faculty and staff who work hard to ensure students receive the best education. I look forward to continuing the School of Business' long-standing tradition of graduating remarkable individuals and fostering relationships with community and regional business leaders."
