CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Northern State University’s Ronald Brownie has been named secretary of the board of directors for the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP), a professional membership organization that supports programs that offer college courses to high school students.

Brownie, who will also serve on the Executive Committee of the Board, is the first person from the state of South Dakota to serve on the NACEP Board of Directors.

At NSU, Brownie is director of Online and Continuing Education, including the Rising Scholars Program. The Rising Scholars Program was recognized by NACEP this past spring when the program became the first in the state of South Dakota to become accredited.

Brownie was born and raised in Springfield, Mo. He graduated from Lake Charles High School, Lake Charles, La., in 1980. Brownie enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1981, serving as an Aviation Maintenance Administration (AZ1) First Class until early retirement in 1996.

In June 2011, Brownie left Purdue University to become the Director of Online & Continuing Education at Northern State. He completed his Associate of Science in Business at Quincy College, Bachelor of Science in Professional Aeronautics at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Master of Science in Human Resources at Chapman University, and Ph.D. studies (ABD) in Educational Leadership, Human Resource Development at Barry University.

Brownie is an education and human resource professional with 25 plus years’ experience in a broad range of positions and organizations (government, private and public). He previously taught for the U.S. Navy, Stetson University, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Purdue University North Central and Northern State University, accumulating 8,987 plus hours instructing, and training for administrative and technical courses.

NACEP's national network of over 450 colleges and universities, 70 high schools and school districts and 30 state agencies and system offices actively share the latest knowledge about best practices, research and advocacy. 

Concurrent and dual enrollment partnerships provide high school students the opportunity to take college credit-bearing courses. Called concurrent enrollment when taught by college-approved high school teachers, concurrent and dual enrollment partnerships successfully transition students from high school to college.
