Joshua Opp

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Joshua Opp will have his senior recital at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 12 in Krikac Auditorium on the campus of Northern State University.

Opp, the son of Allen and Melissa Kienow of Aberdeen, is a 2008 graduate of Aberdeen Central High School.

Opp, a music education (orchestra) major, plays the viola. He will perform “Sarabande” by Carl Bohm, “Gavotte and Mazurka” by Hans Sitt, “Hoffmeister Viola Concerto (Movement 2 Adagio)” by Franz Anton Hoffmeister, “Romanian Peasant Dance” by Constantin Dimitrescu, and “Spanish Dance” by Moritz Moszkowski. He will be accompanied by Kay Fischer.

Also performing during Opp’s recital will be bass major Tanner Chilson of Watertown. Chilson will play the fourth movement of Frank Proto’s “Carmen Fantasy,” accompanied by Mary Marion on piano.

Opp has studied with Dr. Robert Vodnoy at NSU.

“I really enjoy working with the staff and forming connections at NSU, not to mention quality instruction and guidance throughout my college career,” he said.

He will graduate in May and hopes to find a position as an orchestra director.

“After a few years and some experience, I may return to school to further my education,” Opp said. “I am also engaged and hope to start a family down the road.”
