ABERDEEN, S.D. – Molly Royals and Tanner Chilson will hold a senior recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, in Northern State University’s Krikac Auditorium.

Royals is the daughter of Nicole and Todd Craig of Rapid City and Stew and Maria Royals of Baltimore, Md. Royals graduated from Rapid City Central High School in 2013.

Chilson, the son of Sherisse and Steve Chilson, grew up in Watertown, graduating from Watertown High School in 2014.

Royals, a music major with a certificate in arts management, plays the clarinet. She will perform “3 Preludes” by George Gershwin, “Clarinet Sonata” by Joseph Horovitz and “Abyss of the Birds” by Oliver Messiaen. She will be accompanied by Dr. Anne Waltner.

Chilson, a music education major with a jazz pedagogy certificate, plays the string bass. He will perform “Cello Concerto” by Edward Elgar, “Double Bass Concerto no. 2” by Giovanni Bottesini and “Introduction and Variations for One String on Rossini’s ‘Moses in Egypt’” by Niccolo Paganini. He will be accompanied by Dr. William Wieland.

Royals has studied under Dr. Alan LaFave and Dr. Audrey Miller during her time at NSU. She will graduate from Northern in December. She plans to attend grad school for music and library sciences, with hopes to become a music librarian.

Chilson has studied with Dr. Robert Vodnoy during his time at NSU. He will graduate from Northern in the spring. His future plans involve teaching high school string orchestra and attending grad school for bass performance and musicology.
