About the Camp

Northern State University is offering a Tech and Entrepreneurship Camp on campus for students entering grades 9-12 in fall 2023. This day camp is designed to expose campers to technology applications across the NSU campus. Campers will spend classroom time learning to code, get hands-on with university technologies, participate in roundtable discussions with virtual and in-person entrepreneurs, and take off-campus tours of local businesses. 

 

About Mentorship

Working with Northern employees, peer mentors will assist and participate in classroom activities and guide camp participants in all aspects of the program including in the classroom, around campus, in dining facilities, during social activities, and on field trips.  

Mentors will work up to 10 hours each day during the camp and participate in training on May 23. Daytime-only shifts are available.  

Responsibilities include:  

  • Helping NSU employees facilitate and supervise camp activities. Interaction with and encouragement of students during activities is required.  
  • Completing daytime and other assignments with program staff 
  • Traveling to and from employers and partnering institution sites for camp activities in a supervisory capacity
  • Reporting directly to the NSU camp liaison and other NSU camp staff 
  • Additional duties as assigned 

Mentors must:  

  • Be available to work each Tuesday for the duration of the camp. Tentative dates of employment are Tuesdays from May 30- June 27, 2023
  • Participate in a daylong training on May 23, 2023, at Northern
  •  Be currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of an accredited college or university or be an educator in South Dakota. NOTE: NSU employees (non-students) interested in assisting with the event should contact Joshua Citrak.
  • Pass a background check 
  • Be passionate and enthusiastic about working with youth and curious about technology! Coding language, IT or software skills not necessary
