Fort Sisseton Historic Festival
June 2-3, 2007

SDPAA artists are invited to paint “en plein aire” during the annual Fort Sisseton Historical Festival.  This event draws an estimated 25,000 visitors every year. This event is unstructured – there are no plans for a dinner or wet exhibit due to the scope and size of the festival.

Participating artists should register/check-in at the park entrance.  Artists are required to pay the standard admission fee. The park will waive all vendor fees normally charged to commercial vendors.

Originally a frontier army outpost, this restored1864 fort, atop the Coteau des Prairies (or hills of the prairies), is a rare reminder of the western frontier.  Paint on location among the officers' quarters, stone barracks, powder magazine, guardhouse, and other frontier structures.

Contact the Fort Sisseton Gift Shop at 605-448-5474 for additional information. The Fort Sisseton Gift Shop is open daily from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
