Dr. Ahmet Can joined Northern State University's faculty in August 2016. He holds a bachelor's degree in psychological counseling and guidance from Cukurova University in Adana, Turkey. He earned his master's degrees in school counseling/clinical mental health counseling from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio, in 2012. He also received a Ph.D. in counselor education and supervision from Ohio University in 2015.
Dr. Can has extensive international experience as a high school counselor and elementary school counselor in diverse public schools. In the last year of his doctoral studies, he worked as a clinical counselor at Counseling and Psychological Services (CPS) at Ohio University. After teaching at Roosevelt University in Chicago, he began work as an assistant professor in Northern's department of psychology and counselor education.

Dr. Can's major research and scholarship areas of interest include counselor education and supervision, school counseling, cross-cultural counseling, international college students and psychological well-being. He has published and presented on his research interests in peer-reviewed regional, national and international publications and conferences.
