Counseling Center

Chemical Health

NSU has a comprehensive program that offers a variety of ways in which students can gain assistance or information on issues relating to alcohol and other drug use including those who may have concerns for others’ use. The program was developed with the goals of preventing high-risk use, early response to behaviors of concern, and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.

Programs include:

  • Social Mentors Leadership Program

  • Providing identification and referral skills training to residence hall staff, faculty, and other campus personnel.

  • Providing various support and educational options for students experiencing difficulties including counseling with certified chemical dependency counselors.

  • The Insight Class and Advanced Insight Program, a two level educational program with corresponding sanctions.

  • Presentations are also available on a variety of student concerns with emphasis on the role which alcohol plays in these issues.

  • The Counseling Center also works closely with other campus departments in creating a safe and healthy living environment.

The Counseling Center also provides assistance and referrals to treatment and prevention facilities.  You can view local facilities by going to the following:
