Interdisciplinary Learning: Technology-driven Integration of Science
and Physical Education in 5th Grade Rural Classrooms

Teacher education candidates within ELED 320 K-8 Science Methods will develop integrative lesson plans that support a unit(s) on physical education and human anatomy. These lesson plans and unit(s) will illustrate candidates’ knowledge of content standards and effective instruction and learning. Computer based presentation software will be developed by candidates to enrich lessons and also illustrate their knowledge of technology and effective ways to infuse technology within instruction. Lessons will be “fine-tuned” within the course prior to their being shared with rural South Dakota teachers for use in fifth (5th) grade classrooms. Pre-test and post-test analyses will assess whether or not objectives have been met in the fifth grade classrooms. Additionally, a pre- and post-test survey assessing attitudes about physical education will be given to candidates, teachers, and students
