Distance Literacy
Tutoring Via Web Camera for Students in Grades 8-12: Optimisms
and Pessimisms
Northern State University's
Reading Clinic will offer literacy assessment and instruction,
via video cameras, for students in grades 8-12. Middle and high
school students will work with secondary education majors
enrolled in NSU’s SEED 450 7-12 Teaching Reading in the
Content Area who serve as tutors. The tutors will be
supervised by Dr. Timothy Houge, Director of the NSU Reading
Clinic. Clinic sessions will be held during the fall and spring
semesters. This opportunity will allow preservice teachers to
develop their knowledge and skills as teachers of reading and
writing. In addition, it will advance our data regarding the
prospect of providing literacy assistance to students who can
not access the reading clinic’s service due to how far they live
from Aberdeen.
