Teacher
education students in both EDFN 475/575 Human Relations and INED
411 South Dakota Indian Studies administered a multiple
intelligences self-inventory to students in grades three through
eight attending the Smee School in Wakpala, South Dakota. The
Smee School is a public school located on the Standing Rock
Reservation and consists of a student population that is 99%
Native American. Teacher education students from NSU assisted
in data collection and compilation. Results of the survey were
then reported back to the classroom teacher and students as a
mini-lesson and general overview of the theory of multiple
intelligences. Phase Two of this project again involves NSU
teacher education students designing lesson plans linking the
South Dakota state content standards and the eight multiple
intelligences. These lessons will be posted on a website
devoted to educator resources.
