Application Guidelines

Forty students who will be high school juniors or seniors in Fall, 06, will be selected to attend the Future Teachers Academy (FTA).  If chosen, the FTA will provide your funding for the entire academy including room, board, tuition, materials, and supplies.  You will only be responsible for transportation to and from the academy as well as any incidental costs while here (i.e., snacks, mementos, etc…)

1. Criteria used to select participants include an interest in a career in education and promise for becoming a successful teacher based upon: 1) academic achievement, 2) a recommendation from an educator; 3) demonstrate leadership and participation in school and/or community activities; 4) an essay.

2. We highly encourage all students that are interested to apply.

Application Directions (all forms downloadable below)

· Complete the application form (Part I and Part II) in its entirety.  You and your parent/legal guardian must sign the application.

· Select an educator who knows you well to complete the Educator Recommendation form (Part I and Part II).  Please enter this individual’s name on your application.  When completed, the recommendation form should be included with the application.

· Include an official copy of your transcript.  This can be obtained from your counselor.

· Complete a typed essay of not more than 500 words, double-spaced.  The essay question is described on the application.  Please place your name on each page of the essay.

· ALL COMPLETED MATERIALS SHOULD BE MAILED NO LATER THAN March 20,  2006 TO:
