Lesson Summary      The third and fourth graders will work together in small groups to create a poster after researching facts on the Internet about a planet of the solar system.

8.  Students use a variety of technological and information resources (e.g., libraries, databases, computer networks, and video) to gather and synthesize information and to create and communicate knowledge.

8.  Select and use appropriate tools and technology resources to accomplish a variety of tasks and solve problems.
Lesson Objectives Upon completion of instruction, the students will have:
  1. Done research on planets using the Internet. 
  2. Typed information using complete sentences on the computer. 
  3. Presented their information by completing a poster. 
Assessment
  1. Teacher will observe students and monitor Internet use. 
  2. All students' writing will be grammatically correct using complete sentences. 
  3. The poster will make use of typed information and answer class-generated questions. 
Technology to be Used The students will use the Internet to research and present information. The following sites are suggested:

Other Materials poster board, glitter, markers, crayons, glue, scissors, construction paper
Procedural Activities
  1. Students will research their assigned planet on the Internet and answer specific questions generated by class. 
  2. Students will type answers to their questions using complete sentences. 
  3. Students will create a poster of their planet using their typed information to illustrate their planet and organize their information.
