The following objectives have been
designed to facilitate the transition from teacher candidate to teacher:
o
To
provide challenging experiences under the supervision of a carefully
selected cooperating teacher, whereby the student teacher has the
opportunity to test theories and implement methodology acquired and
developed during his/her professional preparation, as well as to utilize
his/her own initiatives and resources.
o To
develop the initial outcomes, as stated in the evaluation form, that
will result in security and confidence and thus nurture enthusiasm for
teaching.
o
To
encourage the student teacher to develop a functional philosophy of
education that will guide further development.
o To
provide an opportunity for supervision and/or evaluation of the student
teaching experience by the student teacher, the cooperating teacher, and
the university supervisor providing a firmer foundation for additional
learning.
o To
enrich the student teacher's understanding of the professional
responsibilities of the teacher to the students, to his/her colleagues,
and to the community.
