STUDENT TEACHING SEMINARS

Three seminars, in addition to Pre-registration meeting, are REQUIRED during EACH student teaching experience: the Orientation Seminar at the beginning of the experience, the Diversity Seminar midway through the experience, and the Culminating/Celebration Seminar at the end of the experience.  All four seminars serve unique functions and are important components of student teaching (see Student Teaching Calendar for dates).

 The Pre-Registration Meeting

Pre-registration for student teaching is scheduled early in the semester preceding the student teaching semester.  This seminar will outline all regulations for student teaching and explain all guidelines.  The pre-student teaching interview will be explained and scheduled.

 The Orientation Seminar

This seminar is an overview of the 10-12 week student teaching experience.  It is required of student teachers.  The first triad conference is to take place at this seminar, along with an orientation as to the roles of the three members of the triad--the student teacher, the cooperating teacher, and the university supervisor.  It is also a time for collaboration and sharing between NSU and educators in the field.

 The Diversity Seminar

This seminar is scheduled midway through the student teaching experience and is specifically designed to share strategies which will address the diverse needs in a classroom: special needs, special abilities, gender, race, culture, etc.  There is a sharing time between student teachers at this seminar encouraging support and networking among those present.  Every Diversity Seminar is different and is required of student teachers during EACH student teaching experience.

 The Culminating/Celebration Seminar

The Culminating Seminar is a celebration of successful completion of the student teaching experience, a time for evaluation of cooperating teacher and university supervisor, and an information seminar regarding next steps--certification, graduate school, and job search.  It is required of student teachers and university supervisors.
