Northern Education major reading to a group of children in the Lakewood Mall
Welcome to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education!
If your dream is to be an elementary school teacher, you aren’t alone: The elementary education program is the largest education program at NSU. To increase marketability, elementary education students are encouraged to complete additional endorsements or minors in specialties such as early childhood, computer technology or special education.

If your goal is to teach at the high school level, you will major in one of the teaching fields offered, such as language arts or mathematics. These students also are encouraged to seek endorsements to better prepare them for their career.

All NSU education students learn to address classroom diversity encompassing a wide range of learning styles and needs. They also gain extensive field experience in classrooms and integrate the use of technology in instruction through hands-on experience with distance teaching equipment.
