Welcome to the Special Education Department
Northern’s special education program prepares you for a rewarding career  in teaching children with disabilities.
The program provides a variety of practical experiences and interactions. You'll examine all aspects of special education, including methods of inclusion, resource rooms, collaboration and individualized programming.

At NSU, you can major in elementary or secondary education with a supporting major or minor in special education; or double major in special education and elementary education.

To become K-12 certified, you must major in special education. While a special education minor does not lead to certification, it does provide general education classroom teachers with skills and methods to enhance their teaching of students with special needs.
