Accounting Club

The NSU Accounting Club enhances the learning process of accounting majors through guest speakers, volunteer income assistance and tours of accounting-related businesses. 
 
Annual sponsored events: Volunteer income tax assistance, survival packages during finals week and scholarship drive

 

 

Association for the Education of Young Children (AEYC)

At Northern, the Association for the Education of Young Children (AEYC) promotes the development of students in Early Childhood Education through awareness of the rights and needs of children and their families and ways professional people trained in the early childhood field can meet these needs.

Business Club

The Business Club promotes business knowledge and interaction among business majors and minors through speakers, trips and events.

Membership requirements: Must be a business major seeking any business degree. Dues are $20 for the year or $10 for fall semester graduates.

English Club

NSU's English Club provides a fun and relaxed environment in which all interested in reading, writing and watching films can meet and exchange ideas. We encourage community involvement and the expression of ideas through reading and writing.

 

Membership Requirements: Interest in English as a discipline in general. You DO NOT need to be an English major or minor to be a member of the NSU English Club.

 

 

German Club

The German Club gives you a chance to enjoy German culture, language, and heritage. Even if you can’t say anything beyond “Gesundheit” and “Kino der Toten,” you are welcome to join the German Club! Lots of students from the region have German ancestry, and enjoying that – especially the food (!!!) – is a big part of our mission! Plus we enjoy speaking German and will hold our weekly Stammtisch every Wednesday at noon in Northern’s newly renovated Student Center – join us for lunch with some German on the side! We aso have film nights and have been entertaining ideas about game nights and other fun events. If you would enjoy exploring German food, culture, and language with us, please join us – you’ll be glad you did!

 

 

History Club

History Club activities include history  field trips, History Quiz bowl and movie nights. The group meets at least once a month, at 7 p.m. on a Tuesday; locations vary. Want to join? Contact an advisor or club officer for details.

 

 

Honors Club

Members of the NSU Honors Program are part of the Honors Club, which meets monthly and hosts social events open to all Northern students.

 

Activities and events include:

  • Annual overnight, off-campus retreat
  • Monthly social events: movie or bowling nights, quiz bowl, international lunches, and more
  • Community service projects
  • Advising/registration assistance
  • Opportunities for internships and networking

National Association for Music Education (NAfME)
President: Nichole R. Anderson

The purpose of NSU NAfME is to improve and support the academic and social environment for future music eduators and music education in the area, region and state through community outreach and welcoming music educators and students to our campus.

Membership is open to students from any and all majors at Northern. Members must have a passion for music and desire to further the music education program at Northern. Chapter, state and national dues are collected annually.

PHIT Club

The PHIT Club provides professional, social, and service opportunities for majors and minors of sport marketing and administration, human performance and fitness, physical education, and coaching.

Membership Requirements: Must be a major and/or minor of the Health and Physical Education Department. Majors include: Sports Marketing and Administration, Human Performance and Fitness, and Physical Education. Minor includes Coaching.

The Science Club stimulates interaction between students of a scientific major and between students and instructors of a scientific major; and promotes scientific understanding between students and the community.

Membership Requirements: open to anyone majoring in biology or those who are interested in science

 

 

Sigma Alpha Iota

The mission of Sigma Alpha Iota is to encourage, nurture, and support the art of music. The chapter’s purpose is to uphold the highest standards of music, and to further the development of music in America and around the world. Sigma Alpha Iota strives to give inspiration and encouragement through music.

Membership requirements: sincere interest in music, 2.5 G.P.A., annual payment of dues, pledging and initiation to the organization

Annually sponsored events: Recitals and other performances throughout the community, service projects such as music mentoring, and various fundraisers to aid music programs. Fundraisers include singing valentines, dinners, and bake sales.

 

 

Sigma Tau Delta
President: Mina Solinger

NSU’s Xi Gamma Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society, is an international honor society formed to recognize achievement and academic excellence in English. The society promotes literature, language and writing and, through community service, helps foster literacy. Members have access to scholarships and networking opportunities for employment.


Membership Requirements: Open to all English majors or minors. To join, you must have:

  • A minimum of two college courses in English beyond freshman composition
  • Completed at least three semesters of college course work
  • A minimum overall GPA of 3.0
  • Paid a one-time membership fee of $37

 

 

South Dakota Education Association-Student Program (SDEA-SP)
