Behavior Incident Report
Campus Security at Northern State University is provided by a licensed law enforcement officer. The campus officer is a member of the Aberdeen Police Department and serves the campus through a service contract while maintaining their position on the Aberdeen Police Force.
Community policing at NSU provides the campus community an opportunity to work with the officer to ensure a safe and secure campus in several ways. The officer provides ongoing education through Residence Hall presentations on topics that include basic safety precautions, steps to reduce crime, theft prevention, appropriate use of social media, drug and alcohol issues, sexual assault awareness and prevention, and more.
The officer also oversees “Operation Registration,” which allows students to keep a list of their personal property on file in the Campus Security Office to aid in recovery if valuables are ever lost or stolen.
The goal of community policing is to remove the stigma surrounding law enforcement and students. The officer makes every effort to meet students and other members of the campus community, to get to know them and help them feel at ease. The officer is available to answer questions and assist students and others with law enforcement-related and campus or community resource questions.
While the officer is able to file official police reports as needed, the officer is also there to help make the campus a safe and welcoming home environment for our students, faculty and staff.
