Medical Services: Avera Aberdeen Family Physicians has a contract with Northern to provide medical services. They have several physicians available to meet your medical needs.

In case of sudden illness or injury, NSU will cover an evaluation by a health care provider only if the nurse on duty at NSU Health Services sees you first. NSU does not cover X-rays, lab or treatments performed at the physician's office.

If you choose to go to another facility to receive medical care without a referral from the NSU Health Services office, any bills for service would be at your expense. Northern doesn't cover emergency room visits or follow-up appointments related to an emergency room visit.

Services Not Covered:
  • Treatment of chronic or pre-existing illness or injury (thyroid, diabetes, depression, fracture etc.)
  • Any illness or injury where care has been recently provided by another care provider and symptoms have not been resolved or have recurred
