Dan Tallman's Bird and Flower Photographs

Birds of North America

Clicking the link above leads to a compilation of my bird photos.  Not all these photos are all that great.  These photos are more of a photographic lifelist of the birds of North and Middle America than an art gallary. I felt this project was a way to take the photos out of various boxes and drawers and share them with others. Early photos are from the 1960s.  A few are from Europe and Mexico.  They have been digitized from faded slides.  I am surprised how poor most of them were, even in pristine condition.  The subjects were often small and barely in focus. I suppose this is the result of the lenses affordable to a teenager. In the 1970s, Erika and I collected birds in Peru and Ecuador for the Lousiana State University. A few of these birds are also found in the AOU region.  I am surprised here that there are not more photos.  In this case I think we were too busy doing our field work to lug around camera equipment. Since the 1980s, we have worked at Northern State University.  Most of my research involves banding birds.  Many of these have been photographed. We have slowly entered the digital age. I now take photos with a Canon D-30.  Many of the photos are taken through a Leica spotting scope.

I have always been fascinated by wildflowers, but only recently have I decided to build a website for my photographs.  This project is definitely a work in progress.  My plan to to develop this site over the next several years.  Click on the wildflower link above to see what progress I have made.
In both sites, navigation between photos and indices are with the browser back button.

New: Birds of the World
I have started a collection of my photographs of birds not found in North America.  Again, this is definitely a work in progress that will take several years to complete.  Most of the photos here are predigital.

So long as proper credit is given to me, any of these photos may be used or republished.
