Welcome to the University College Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is a series of weekly peer study sessions for students taking historically difficult courses.  SI is provided for all students who want to improve their understanding of course materials and improve their grade.  Attendance at the sessions is voluntary.  For you the student, it’s a chance to get together with people in your class to compare notes, discuss important concepts, develop strategies for studying, and test yourselves before the instructor does.

At each session your SI Leader, a competent student who has achieved success in the area, will guide you through this material. As early in the semester as possible you will fill out a short survey to let the SI Leader know what times the majority of you are available.  Please fill this survey out accurately so that the schedule can be completed as soon as possible.  Each SI Leader will set up two or more sessions per week at times that are best for the majority of you.  These times will then be announced by the Group Leader and Instructor throughout the semester.  You can attend one, two, or more… the choice is yours!  Each session will be different because you’ll have new material to discuss.

SI sessions are informal.  Bring your notes; bring your textbook; bring your questions. If you attend SI sessions regularly, chances are you’ll earn a better grade.  You’ll have developed a better understanding of course content as well as more effective ways of studying.  This will help you succeed in all of your course work at Northern State University. For more information on Supplemental Instruction, general questions, or information on how to become an SI Leader please contact:
