Everyone begins with an A.
Lower a letter grade (A to B, B to C, etc.) if
  • any portion of the assignment is late.
  • the composition did not exploit the ingenious elements of the row.
  • the piece is not dodecaphonic.
  • the music is entirely monophonic.
  • the work includes 10 or more incorrect pitches
Lower two thirds of a letter grade (A to B+, A- to B, B+ to B-, etc.) if
  • the composition used only prime forms.
  • no matrix accompanied the piece.
  • no description accompanied the music.
  • the work includes 4 to 9 incorrect pitches.
Lower one third of a letter grade (A to A-, A- to B+, B+ to B, etc.) if 2 or 3 pitches are incorrect.
At the instructor's artistic discretion, your grade may be raised or lowered as much as one letter.
