Part Writing Tips Theory Things   William Wieland
When writing alto and tenor parts, you might work backwards from cadences.
Work in the following order:
1. Correct Chords
2. Sonorous Spacing
3. Nearest Notes
4. NO Perfect Parallels
5. NO Doubled Active Tones
Sonorous Spacing
The alto and tenor lines are often interchangeable.
Nearest Note
Look first for voices which can remain on the same pitch.
At authentic cadences, resolve the leading tone to tonic and 4 to 3.
Perfect Parallels
If the bass moves by step, move the other 3 voices in the opposite direction.
If 2 parts move in parallel, check for perfect intervals.
