| When writing alto and tenor parts, you might work backwards from cadences. | |

Work in the following order: 1. Correct Chords 2. Sonorous Spacing 3. Nearest Notes 4. NO Perfect Parallels 5. NO Doubled Active Tones | |

Sonorous Spacing The alto and tenor lines are often interchangeable. | |

Nearest Note Look first for voices which can remain on the same pitch. At authentic cadences, resolve the leading tone to tonic and 4 to 3. | |

Perfect Parallels If the bass moves by step, move the other 3 voices in the opposite direction. If 2 parts move in parallel, check for perfect intervals. | |
