Grading:
Grading is based on individual work ethic, on individual effort and group teamwork, acquisition of key skills, individual promptbook and stage management work in rehearsal and performance on How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.
The breakdown is as follows:
Participation
The bulk of the work for this class will focus on the acquisition of the skills necessary to stage manage a musical (or play). It is a practical studio course that encourages your individual development. In order to gain those skills, you must work consistently, in class and especially in rehearsal. Your willingness to embrace the challenges and problems inherent in any production will enhance your ability to learn and grow.
You must be prepared to meet all production deadlines on the day listed below for each assignment. Production and rehearsals must proceed on an orderly and scheduled timetable in order to insure the optimum outcome. Since the stage manager is largely responsible for maintaining that schedule in rehearsal and performance, each student stage manager must hold themselves to that high standard. Late assignments cannot be tolerated and will adversely affect the final grade for the course.
Requiremeents
Stage Manage Rehearsals for the Fall Musical: All stage management students will share responsibility for the actual stage managing of the fall musical, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. After the show is cast, each class member will be assigned a specific responsibility on this production (those class members cast will still have a production role). Each class member will be graded on his/her completed show job.
Complete Promptbook: Each class member must turn in on Wednesday, November 7th a completed promptbook according to the model described in the Stern textbook. A list of what must be included can be found on the last page of this syllabus. Each of the forms must be customized to meet the specific requirement needs of a university production. Note: It is important and required that each stage manager work independently on each of the forms, so the final grade can be assessed on individual creativity.
Assignments
Each student is responsible for all assignments. Failure to complete any assignment will result in a zero grade for that assignment.
Attendance
Attendance at class and at rehearsals is not only required, but it is essential to the success of the project. Since a large part of the stage manager's job is to insure that the production run smoothly and on time, it follows that no lateness can be tolerated.
The stage manager on call for rehearsal must arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to the rehearsal call.
