Some Instructions on Creating a Lighting Composition with Virtual Light Lab 2.1
Virtual Light Lab 2.1 Help File
Using Virtual Light Lab 2.1 which is loaded on the computer in the Theatre Classroom (JC129) create a composition for each of the following five moments.
- Two men meet late at night, deep in Birnham Woods, to plot the overthrow of the King.
- After years of separation, two lovers reunite at sunset in a French street cafe.
- A Paris prostitute stands near a street light beckoning a passer by.
- A woman is killed by her lover, before the bullring on a hot afternoon in Seville
- In a dark prison cell a woman's prayers are answered, and her sins are forgiven.
Use no more than six lights, not including the cyc lights, to create each look. (Suggestion: Start with your Key light (sun, moon, street light) and add the remaining units to fill in the shadows, mold the actor, and separate him from the background)
The images will be evaluated using the following five questions...
- Does the image you created reflect the look's description?
- Is your color choice appropriate?
- Is the intensity (level) acceptable?
- Does your choice of position reveal the three dimensionality of the performer?
- Does the cyc add or detract from the final image?
Save the look to one Microsoft Word or WordPad document. Write a brief paragraph for each look
describing how you created the composition. When you have completed the assignment, save the Word document and the *.vll file (or files) to your subdirectory (folder) on the lab computer.
