NSU GiveNDay surpasses goal
ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s second annual GiveNDay surpassed its goal, with 1,817 donors raising $330,000 for the university and its students.
GiveNDay, coordinated by the NSU Foundation, took place April 6-7, 2022. Also known as #OneDayOnePack, the 24-hour challenge is designed to inspire all supporters of Northern to come together to provide essential funding across the university.
NSU alum is making connections to raise awareness about rare condition

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Every year, Northern State University alumnus Tim Schut picks one word that will be his theme for the year—and last year, that word was courage.
“I had no idea what courage meant in 2021 when I picked it,” said Schut, of Chester, S.D.
NSU alumna wins prestigious Milken Educator Award
ABERDEEN, S.D. – For Northern State University alumna Nichole Bowman, a school assembly brought the surprise of a lifetime when she was presented with a prestigious national teaching award.
Bowman, who teaches math at T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre, is one of only about 60 teachers nationwide to win the annual Milken Educator Award, which carries a monetary prize of $25,000 and is called the "Oscar of teaching."
NSU to hold welcome reception for new Director of Athletics
ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University invites the community to a welcome reception for NSU Director of Athletics Nate Davis.
The meet and greet event with Davis will take place 6:30-8 p.m. Monday, April 4, in the Kessler’s Champions Room of the NSU Barnett Center. Complimentary hors d’ oeuvres and beverages will be provided.
NSU Honors Program to host Holly Hoffman on April 6
ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Honors Program will host speaker, author and former “Survivor” contestant Holly Hoffman at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 6.
The event, which is free and open to campus and the community, will take place in the Kessler’s Champions Club in the NSU Barnett Center Addition.
Hoffman grew up in Eureka, S.D., and attended Northern. She was the last remaining member of the Espada Tribe and the last woman standing on Season 21 of CBS’ hit reality show “Survivor Nicaragua.”

ABERDEEN, S.D. – For Northern State University alumna Hannah Rose Higdon, moving away from family, friends and the close-knit Northern community to a larger graduate school was a challenging adjustment.
Northern alumna joins NSU Foundation as CFO
ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University alumna Kaylee Babcock has joined the NSU Foundation as Chief Financial Officer.
Babcock, an NSU graduate with a degree in Professional Accountancy, started the first week of March as CFO of the Foundation.
“Kaylee is a great asset to the Foundation and University,” said NSU Foundation CEO Zach Flakus. “She is extremely intelligent and very professional. Her background and skillset will be helpful as the NSU Foundation continues to grow and find creative ways to support students and programs.”
Northern State University names new Director of Athletics
ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University has named a new leader to guide the next era of Wolves Athletics.
Nate Davis has been selected as NSU Director of Athletics—one of only five people to hold that title in almost 70 years.
