NSU Facilities Manager Monte Mehlhoff has issued this week's campus construction update.

 

Regional Science Education Center

Masons have completed the greenhouse and have begun cleaning the burnish block; this is the last of the block work.

The steel crew has completed steel erection and has moved on to detailing. Plumbers and electricians are working on underground piping in the south wing as well as on deck in the south wing.

The concrete crew has placed approximately 70 percent of the concrete on deck in the south wing. The concrete floor in stair No. 2 is done.

The framing contractor has completed most of the roof parapet framing in the south wing and started on exterior wall framing. The utility contractor has the storm line installed to the detention area. They also have excavated the detention and have begun installing fabric and rock ahead of the chambers. Sidewalks are complete south of JFAC and the landscaper has started work.

Athletic Complex

The fields are complete. Pouring and backfill for the south retaining wall was finished and column foundations poured this week.

Next week, masons will begin placing block and brick at the columns. Berm fill should be completed next week.

On the pavilion's second floor, roof and wall framing and sheathing are complete. Soffit framing and metal roof and wall panel installation are ongoing and should be complete early next week. On the second-floor interior, wall framing and aluminum window and door installation were to be completed Aug. 24. Rough-ins continued this week and should be complete before sheetrock hanging and taping begin Aug. 27.

On the first floor, painting continues and will be followed by finishing. Ceramic tile installation continues.

Elevator installation is set for Aug. 27 if the building has power.

Installation of lighted signage is set for Aug. 29.

Barnett Center

Roof work has progressed to the lower level on the west side.

Physical Plant

Steam piping is being hooked up to one of the new boilers. One of two remaining boilers remains in Georgia with a pending ship date. Boiler stacks should be on the way and the water softener is complete. Duct work is ongoing.

Parking Lots

The Steele Hall/Great Plains West parking lot is scheduled for blacktop application Aug. 27. Work on the Newman Center lot should be complete next week.

Completion of this work should help ease current parking congestion.
