POSTED MARCH 16, 2020 - INFORMATION MAY HAVE CHANGED

Sent on behalf of NSU Senior Cabinet

Beginning Monday, March 23, S.D. Board of Regents institutions, including NSU, will move all classes online for a two-week period. On-campus, in-person classes are currently scheduled to resume on Monday, April 6.

Due to the ever-changing situation, the SDBOR will revisit the situation and communicate any changes in course delivery again on March 27.

In order to slow the spread of COVID-19, students are encouraged to stay at their permanent residences until Sunday, April 5. We realize this may not be possible for some of you, especially those who depend on campus housing and dining facilities. For those students, residence halls and Dining Services will remain open.

If you plan to return to campus, please notify NSU Residence Life. Residence Life will follow up with an email with further instructions.

If any students are unable to access online course information for any reason, including due to a lack of high-speed internet, they are encouraged to contact access@northern.edu so that arrangements may be made.

Here are a few tips that may help students transition to an online learning environment.

Remember: It’s important that if you feel unwell, stay home. It’s also important to know the symptoms of the COVID-19 virus:

  • A fever over 100 degrees F
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath

If you’re experiencing these symptoms and think you may have COVID-19, please call your health care provider. (If it’s an emergency, call 911.) Also, if you suspect you are ill please stay in place; avoid going out in public.

If you have visited a high-risk area in the last 30 days, or if you’ve been exposed to someone with COVID-19, email or call your supervisor or residence hall staff about a self-quarantine and read the BOR HR Policies.

Campus remains open for students, faculty and staff concerning basic business operations; however, not all functions of campus will be operating at full capacity. As we stated in our message earlier today, the NSU campus is closed to the public until further notice.

We ask for your patience as we continue to work through this matter.
