Be the Match on Campus Today

Today on campus, NSU will host a Be the Match drive to add people to the national Be the Match registry. The event will be 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in the NSU Student Center lobby. People who participate will have their cheeked swabbed to have their tissue type included in the national registry, which could potentially help patients in need of a blood or bone marrow transfusion. Anyone age 18-44 is welcome. People age 45 and older may register online at the NSU Be the Match web link. Learn more and watch a “Lemons for Leukemia” challenge video by clicking here!

Volunteer Crossing Guards Needed

May Overby Elementary School is looking for afternoon crossing guards! Typically, a shift runs from 2:45 to 3:30 p.m. Contact Mike.Neubert@k12.sd.us if interested. This school is seeing an increase in traffic due to NSU construction projects. President Downs plans to cover two shifts before elementary school gets out for the summer.

End-of-Semester Sale at the NSU Wolf Shoppe

The NSU Wolf Shoppe will have an End-of-Semester Sale Monday, April 30, through Friday, May 4. Take 20 percent off all clothing and giftware!

Textbook Buyback at the NSU Wolf Shoppe

The NSU Wolf Shoppe will hold Textbook Buyback Monday, April 30-Friday, May 4. Hours: Monday, April 30-Thursday, May 3, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.; Friday, May 4, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Also, rental textbooks are due back on or before May 10. No late rentals will be accepted!

Employee Service and Recognition Lunch

The Employee Service and Recognition lunch will be held May 1 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the NSU Student Center Centennial Rooms. Please RSVP to susan.bostian@northern.edu. NSU staff members may be nominated in the following categories:

Art Exhibition Reception is May 4

Danny Quinn’s senior art exhibition will be on display in the NSU Student Center Gallery through May 4. A reception for the exhibition will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, May 4 in the Student Center Gallery. Displayed art in the exhibition includes graphic design work, including both corporate type design work as well as digital artwork.

Fesler Senior Art Exhibition

Emily Fesler’s senior art exhibition will be on display in the Northern State University Spafford Hall Gallery through May 4. A reception for the exhibition will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, May 4 in the Spafford Hall Gallery. Displayed work in the exhibition includes animation, illustration and photography pieces. Most of Fesler’s works are macro photography shots.

2018 Distinguished Alumni Banquet is May 4

The Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest honor bestowed by the Northern State University Alumni Association. This prestigious award recognizes graduates who’ve attained extraordinary distinction in his or her professional field or life and serves to honor alumni who’ve made significant contributions to society, the university and their community.

Awardees are honored annually in the presence of the alumni, students, families and community members to celebrate this important tradition.

The 2018 Distinguished Alumni winners are:

-School of Business Award Winner and NSU Commencement speaker: Carolyn (Stevens) Thompson, J.D., Class of 1991

-Millicent M. Atkins School of Education Award Winner: Bryan DeBates, Class of 1993

-School of Fine Arts Award Winner: Christopher Maunu, Class of 2003

-College of Arts and Sciences Award Winner: Rochelle Nolte, M.D., Class of 1992

The event is open to the public. Please RSVP to the NSU Foundation Office by April 25, 2018, at 605-626-2550 or email nsualumni@northern.edu. Banquet tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for children.

Spring Commencement 2018

NSU Spring Commencement 2018 will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018, in the Barnett Center. For more information, visit the NSU Commencement page.

Dilts Senior Art Exhibition

Kate Dilts’ senior art exhibition will be on display in the President’s Gallery in Spafford Hall through May 5. Displayed work in the exhibition includes graphic design pieces, as well as digitally altered film and digital photography, mounted and displayed in resin.

Chinese Summer Camp

The Confucius Institute’s Second Annual K-5 Chinese Summer Camp will be held 8:30-11:30 a.m. June 4-8 at NSU. The camp is open to ages 6-11, and the cost is $40 for the week. Space is limited. Register by May 21 by emailing confucius@northern.edu or calling 605-626-3293.
