Christmas Open House Sale at the NSU Wolf Shoppe

The NSU Wolf Shoppe’s annual Christmas Open House Sale will be held Tuesday, Dec. 4, open 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Take 30 percent off clothing and giftware. Stop in for cookies, coffee and hot cider. Sign up for many door prizes! Winners will be drawn after the sale ends.

Lighting of the Northern Green 

Join Student Government Association and NSU Residence Life at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, for the second annual "Lighting of the Northern Green"! There will be cookies and hot chocolate provided by Residence Life, caroling, and lots of holiday cheer. Come out and bring your friends to see Northern's campus get lit up by holiday lights!

Board of Regents Meeting at NSU

The South Dakota Board of Regents will meet Dec. 4-6 in the NSU Student Center Centennial Rooms. Agenda items can be found here or on the SDBOR website.

Biology and Chemistry Senior Seminar Presentations

Fall 2018 Biology and Chemistry Senior Seminar Presentations continue at 10-10:50 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, in MJ 201 with the following topic: Meganne Engebretson, Marissa Clark, McCamey Kimbler; “Crispr: The New Tomorrow.”

BFA Information Session

NSU students interested in learning more about Northern’s upcoming new Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art and Bachelor of Fine Arts in Digital Media can attend an information session  5-6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4, in Dacotah Hall 205. Holiday Extravaganza Concert

The NSU “Holiday Extravaganza” concert will be Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the JFAC Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater. Several additional activities are also planned for the evening, for which the public will want to arrive early to enjoy. Refreshments and music, courtesy of several NSU student chamber groups, will greet the public throughout the beautiful JFAC lobby prior to the main concert. Participating groups for the concert include the Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony, NSU Symphonic Band, NSU Concert Choir and NSU Chamber Choir. Admission is $7 for adults, $3.50 for NSU faculty/staff, and free for school-aged children or NSU students with ID. Purchase tickets online.

Holiday Window Decorating

Students: This year, NSU Student Involvement and Leadership wants to create a multicultural holiday season in the Student Center, with windows decorated for different holidays celebrated around the world. Please fill out our online survey to tell us about the holidays you celebrate, and to let us know if you are interested in decorating a window!

Pre-med Club Blood Drive

The Pre-Med club will be hosting a blood drive on Dec. 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Barnett Center upstairs gym. (Note that it is a different location than last year due to the Board of Regents meeting.)  Sign up online or contact George Nora by email at George.nora@northern.edu.

Senior Recital

Annie Woodmansey and Grace Gasperich will hold a senior recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, in the NSU Krikac Auditorium. Woodmansey, a music education major, is a soprano and plays the flute. Gasperich, a music performance/accounting major, plays the piano and flute.

Buyback Sale at Wolf Shoppe

The NSU Wolf Shoppe will have a Buyback Sale on Thursday, Dec. 6, through Wednesday, Dec. 12. Take 20 percent off all clothing and giftware.

Textbook Buyback at the NSU Wolf Shoppe

The NSU Wolf Shoppe will hold Textbook Buyback Thursday, Dec. 6-Wednesday, Dec. 12, 8-a.m.-5 p.m.

Delta Mu Delta Induction

The School of Business will honor seven graduating seniors who excelled scholastically on Thursday, Dec. 6, at 4 p.m., by inducting them into Delta Mu Delta. The event will be held in the Lincoln Gallery and light refreshments will be served. Delta Mu Delta is an international scholastic honorary for business, to which NSU is eligible due to its accreditation by ACBSP.

Winter Commencement set for Dec. 8

On Saturday, Dec. 8, 108 students will graduate from Northern State University at its 2018 spring commencement. The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. in the NSU Johnson Fine Arts Center. Delivering the commencement address will be NSU Associate Professor of English Dr. Peter Ramey, Northern’s 2018 Outstanding Faculty Award winner. Saturday’s student speaker will be 2018-19 Student Association President Shanae Doerr. For more information and a link to the livestream, visit the NSU Commencement webpage.

Friends of the Arts/NSU Young Artist Competition

The Northern State University School of Fine Arts has announced that it will launch the first annual Friends of the Arts/NSU Young Artist Competition on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019. The music performance competition will be open to juniors and seniors from high schools throughout South Dakota and surrounding states. Generous prizes will be offered for first, second and third place winners in four categories including piano, strings, voice and wind/percussion. Click here to read more information about the competition.

Primrose Arts and Lecture Series

The 2018-19 NSU-Primrose Arts and Lecture Series will take place throughout the academic school year at Aberdeen's Primrose Retirement Community, located at 1701 Third Avenue S.E.

Feb. 12: "Hub City History: Preserving and Presenting the Past in the NSU Archives"; presented by Mr. Robert Russell, director of Beulah Williams Library.

March 12: "Ceramic Form and Fragment: Artwork of Gratia Brown"; presented by Ms. Gratia Brown, Assistant Professor of Art.

April 9: "NSU:  At Home in the World - An Overview of NSU's International Programs"; presented by Dr. Leigh Neys, director of International Programs.

Volunteer Opportunity

The Salvation Army needs volunteers to ring bells. Find a friend and sign up for a two-hour shift to ring bells. Call The Salvation Army at 605-225-7410 to sign up or register online!
