I Hate Winter Events

On Feb. 4, we will be showing Semi-Pro in Krikac Auditorium. This movie will start at 8 p.m. and is co-sponsored by AwareWolves, International Student Office, CAB and Athletics. On Feb. 7, CAB is hosting a dance at the DEC. There will be a shuttle to and from the dance that will pick up at the BC. It will start running at 9 p.m. The dance starts at 9:30 p.m.

Northern Lights Taking Submissions

Dear Northern Student: NSU's literary magazine is taking submissions from now until March 1. Northern Lights publishes poetry, short fiction, short plays, short films, critical and creative non-fiction, photos, artwork, and critical and creative multimedia projects. If you would like your original work considered for this year's issue, please submit it as a Word attachment to northernlights@northern.edu.

International Student Club Valentine Orders

The International Student Club will be taking Valentine orders for carnations, cookies and candy. Please see the international office or email stacey.schmidt@northern.edu for an order form.

SGA Filling Empty Seats

Attention business and fine arts majors: Student Government Association is looking to fill the empty Business and Fine Arts senator seats! Transforming the Teaching & Learning Environment

This virtual conference consists of six daily sessions each weekday from Feb. 4 to 15. Pick and choose which topics interest you – free to all Northern faculty and staff! For more information, please refer to the email sent by NSU Instructional Design on Monday, Jan. 14, at 2 p.m.

Dietz Opening Reception is Feb. 4

Virginia-based artist Alicia Dietz will be exhibiting her artwork in the JFAC gallery from Feb. 4 to March 29. The opening reception is on Feb. 4 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Dietz is a former Blackhawk Helicopter Maintenance Test Pilot who, in her 10-year career, served in Iraq and has been stationed all over the world. She has since traded in her helmet for wood working tools and builds sculpture that draws its influence from her military experiences.

NSU Winter Symphonic Tour

NSU will present “Bands: a la carte,” for their symphonic winter tour, “La Folie.” The tour will start Feb. 5-6, and visit high schools in Huron, Mitchell, Tea Area, and Sioux Falls. The symphonic band will also present two special performances at 3:30 p.m. Feb. 8 at the SDSU Performing Arts Center in Brookings for the South Dakota Bandmasters Convention, and 3 p.m. Feb. 10 at the NSU Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater. Reception for William H. Daly Exhibit

The William H. Daly Exhibit, part of Darcy Usher's NSU Undergraduate Research Grant project, will be unveiled and having an opening reception on Thursday, Feb. 7, starting at 6:30 p.m. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Come learn about an amazing alum of Northern State University with a riveting story.

NSU Teacher Job Fair

The third annual NSU Teacher Job Fair will take place on Friday, Feb. 8, beginning at 9 a.m. in the Student Center Centennial Rooms.  The event will begin with round-table discussions led by school administrators, followed by a job fair and candidate interviews. Candidates should check Wolf Work regularly for participating schools and openings. Professional dress and résumés are required. The NSU Teacher Job Fair is co-sponsored by the Millicent Atkins School of Education and Career Services.  For additional information, please contact the Field Experiences Office or Career Services

B.I.G. (Business – Industry – Government) and South Dakota Teacher Job Fairs

The annual B.I.G. (Business – Industry – Government) and South Dakota Teacher Job Fairs will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. Entrance to both fairs is free for students who pre-register online or with Career Services. Pre-registration also includes a professional free, digital portrait. All other attendees will be required to pay $10 at-the-door for entrance. The deadline to pre-register is Feb. 10. Primrose Arts and Lecture Series

The 2018-19 NSU-Primrose Arts and Lecture Series will take place throughout the academic school year at Aberdeen's Primrose Retirement Community, located at 1701 Third Avenue S.E.

Feb. 12: "Hub City History: Preserving and Presenting the Past in the NSU Archives"; presented by Mr. Robert Russell, director of Beulah Williams Library.

March 12: "Ceramic Form and Fragment: Artwork of Gratia Brown"; presented by Ms. Gratia Brown, Assistant Professor of Art.

April 9: "NSU:  At Home in the World - An Overview of NSU's International Programs"; presented by Dr. Leigh Neys, director of International Programs.

AUCS Concert

The Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony (AUCS) Orchestra will be holding their concert, “Romantic Bouquet,” in the Jewett Theater in the Johnson Fine Arts Center on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m. The performance will be orchestrated by NSU visiting professor of music and director, Christopher Stanichar, and will feature four themed pieces, one written by Stanichar titled “Sunflowers.” Tickets for the concert are $18 for adults and free for students. 2019 Research, Scholarship and Creativity Forum

Students and faculty: Mark your calendars for the 2019 Research, Scholarship and Creativity Forum! This year’s forum will be held on assessment day, March 19. The forum is the best way to showcase student work on campus. Whether you are a business student doing research for a class project, a pre-med student researching genetics, or an art major assembling an display of personal work, you are invited to participate. Whatever independent scholarship you are doing, we want showcase it. To apply, fill out the application form by visiting myNSU and navigating to “Academics,” “Undergraduate Research,” and clicking on “Forum Application” in the documents section. Aberdeen Area & NSU Employment Expo and Job Fair

Save the date for the Aberdeen Area & NSU Employment Expo and Job Fair, slated for Wednesday, March 27, in the Barnett Center. A partnership between NSU Career Services and the South Dakota Department of Labor, this fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is open to all NSU students and community members. Be Part of Wolves Watch

Looking for an opportunity to serve your campus community while being paid? Here is your opportunity to become involved. Campus Safety is looking for students who are interested in being a part of Wolves Watch. The primary purpose of Wolves Watch is to meet fellow students anywhere on campus and walk with them to ensure safe arrival at their destination (library, parking lot, residence hall, etc.). Trained members will also be eligible to work as additional security for large university events. Sign up online using the Wolves Watch Application.

Wolves Triathlon Registration

Registration is now open for the Wolves Triathlon, hosted by the Northern State Swim Team. The date of the event is April 14. For more information and to register, visit the Wolves Triathlon webpage.

Free Zumba in Dacotah Hall

Zumba with ZIN Lara Nelson will take place Mondays and Wednesdays 5:30-6:30 p.m. in Dacotah Hall Dance Studio through Feb. 27. Free to all students and staff!
