COVID-19 News

• Current Self-Reported Case Count: Total active cases: 7 (3 students; 4 faculty/staff). Total students quarantined or isolated: 10 (0 on campus; 10 off campus). (Numbers as of Feb. 5, 2021; please note: those in quarantine/isolation aren’t necessarily confirmed or symptomatic cases)
• Mask Level: NSU is at Level 3, which requires face coverings in all public indoor spaces on campus. Learn more about the SDBOR Face Covering Protocol here.
• Webpage Updates: Northern has updated its COVID-19 Webpage, now including various FAQs for students, faculty and staff.
• Requesting Supplies: To request COVID-19 supplies from NSU Facilities, please work with your supervisor to determine the proposed needs for your entire department and submit an order using this online form.

Upcoming CETL Programs

Join CETL and Sponsored Projects for two joint Grant Panel discussions on Monday, Feb. 8, and Monday, Feb. 22. Both sessions will be held at noon in MJ 203 and in this Zoom room. The Feb. 8 event will focus on how to find and submit grants. We will discuss Pivot, listservs and the role played by the Office of Sponsored Projects. Several NSU faculty will also share their personal experiences with finding grants and what they learned during that process. The Feb. 22 event will focus on how to write and produce grants. We will further explain the role of the Office of Sponsored Projects and listen to more NSU faculty speak about their experiences writing and procuring grants. We will provide a free lunch as long as you RSVP by emailing CETL@northern.edu. American Indian Circle Program Cultural Education Time

Northern State University is dedicated to the recognition of tribal traditions and ceremonies that complement the holistic well-being of American Indian and Alaska Native students. Come join us Tuesday, Feb. 9, from 12:15-12:30 p.m., where we will come together outside of Spafford 106 and have cultural education time to talk about what smudging is, the importance it symbolizes in Indigenous culture and a time of reflection. The American Indian Circle Program would like to invite the NSU campus community to come and participate in our monthly Smudge. Everyone is welcome!

Get paired with a student fitness consultant to shape a plan tailored to your needs. Track your progress with FREE body composition testing each month. Achieve your new year’s goals while helping NSU undergraduate researchers! Souper BOWL of Caring

Donations of canned soup are being accepted on campus through the “Souper BOWL of Caring.” Donate cans of soup in the box by Caribou and Einstein’s through Feb. 9. All donations benefit the local community through The Salvation Army.

NSU Greenhouse Plant Sale

The NSU greenhouse will be holding a plant sale Thursday, Feb. 11, from 1 to 4 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the MJ greenhouse classroom (MJ 144B). Get something green and/or flowering for your honey or yourself! Cash or check only.

Symphonic Band Winter Concert  

The NSU Symphonic Band will present its Winter Concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021, in the Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater. In honor of Black History month, the featured piece on the program is a special arrangement of “Shenandoah” by Omar Thomas, one of the country’s pre-eminent composer/arrangers of jazz and band music. Also featured on the concert is a fanfare of our own Dr. Christopher Stanichar, Director of Orchestra at NSU! The NSU Brass Choir will present a monumental piece, “Images for Brass” by Stephen Bulla, and the NSU Woodwind Choir will present pieces by Debussy and Respighi. There will be a special appearance by the NSU Tuba/Euphonium Quartet, under the direction of Dr. Travis Netzer. Due to COVID-19, admission is free to all 2020-21 NSU School of Fine Arts events. Masks are required, and attendees are asked to follow appropriate social-distancing protocols. The concert will also be livestreamed on the NSU Music Department Facebook page. Accounting Club Hang-out Night

Accounting Club would like to invite you to our hang-out night! We're going to take some time to relax and talk about what guest speakers we would like to hear this year and what volunteer opportunities we want to partake in. We most importantly want to hear how students are doing: How are classes going? Are you doing okay? Is there anything we can do to help? Take time to relax and come hang out with us on Thursday, Feb. 11, at 6 p.m. in Lincoln Hall 224!

International Student Club Fundraiser

The International Student Club is hosting a Valentine’s Day flower fundraiser. There will be a table with carnations available in the Student Center on Friday, Feb. 12. The cost for one carnation is $3, or $5 for two carnations. Cash and Venmo are accepted. Thank you for your support of the international student community! Black History Month Campus Movie Night

The Northern State Athletics Council on Community, Culture and Social Justice, in partnership with the Multicultural Student Affairs Office and the Student Government Association, is sponsoring a Black History Month campus movie night on Monday, Feb. 15, in the Barnett Center, beginning at 7 p.m. “Remember the Titans” was selected for the showing, following a social media poll vote. Northern Theatre Presents “God of Carnage”

In this dramatic one-act by Yasmine Reza, two sets of parents find their politeness eroding and hidden vitriolic emotions spew forth. This production stars Suzi Fitterer, Loretta Simon, Jake Swanson, and Garytt J. Tostenson. “God of Carnage” runs Feb 18-20 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb 21 at 3 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre. Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis. Seating is limited, so please arrive early. Masks are required.

Blood Drive

The Pre-Med Club is sponsoring a blood drive on Friday, Feb. 26, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Student Center Centennial Rooms. Email George.nora@northern.edu or visit vitalant.org to schedule a time for donation. Walk-ins are welcome.

Online Tutoring Sessions

The NSU Tutoring Center offers free online sessions to any Northern student for all general education courses and most upper-level courses. The sessions are conducted via Zoom, which allows real-time interaction between students and tutors. Water Wolves Program

NSU Swimming is running swim lessons through our Water Wolves program. We are looking for swim instructors to work spring sessions. Swim lesson experience is preferred but not required. For more information or to apply, please contact Mikaela Waiflein at Mikaela.M.Waiflein@northern.edu.
