Zumba Starts Tonight

Zumba into the new year with ZIN Lara Nelson – Jan. 7-Feb. 27, Mondays and Wednesdays 5:30-6:30 p.m. in Dacotah Hall Dance Studio. Free to all students and staff! 

Piano Recital is Jan. 9

Northern will host a piano duo recital from two pianists on the faculty at the University of North Dakota. “Teepen-Sugiura Piano Duo: Piano Romantics Plus” will take place at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater. The performance, which is free and open to the public, will feature international concert artists Nariaki Sugiura and Keith Teepen. Learn more here.

S.D. Jazz Festival is Jan. 17

The 49th annual South Dakota Jazz Festival Concert will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, in the JFAC Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater, featuring Latin Jazz phenom Nachito Herrera. Tickets will be available at the door and are $10 for adults and $5 for children. This concert is free for NSU students, faculty and staff with ID. The concert is also an Aberdeen Community Concert for those who have purchased tickets to the concert series. JFAC Gallery Exhibition

The latest exhibition up in the JFAC Gallery is “Reflections” by artist Jay Hopkins. The exhibition is up now through Jan. 25, 2019. Hopkins will have a closing reception 6-7:30 p.m. Jan. 17. An artist talk will take place at 7 p.m., held alongside the Jazz Festival.

Primrose Arts and Lecture Series

The 2018-19 NSU-Primrose Arts and Lecture Series will take place throughout the academic school year at Aberdeen's Primrose Retirement Community, located at 1701 Third Avenue S.E.

Feb. 12: "Hub City History: Preserving and Presenting the Past in the NSU Archives"; presented by Mr. Robert Russell, director of Beulah Williams Library.

March 12: "Ceramic Form and Fragment: Artwork of Gratia Brown"; presented by Ms. Gratia Brown, Assistant Professor of Art.

April 9: "NSU:  At Home in the World - An Overview of NSU's International Programs"; presented by Dr. Leigh Neys, director of International Programs.

Scholarship Invitational

The annual School of Fine Arts Scholarship Invitational will be held Feb. 22-23 in the Johnson Fine Arts Center. The event, open to high school seniors, is a scholarship audition weekend specific to music. Registrations are preferred by Friday, Feb. 15; however, applications are accepted at any time, and arrangements may be made for individual student visits throughout the spring semester. Click here to learn more!
