Student Spotlight: Megan Lero

Megan Lero, a double major in marketing and management at NSU, is determined to leave a positive impact on those around her.

Originally from Oak Grove, Minn., Lero found herself at NSU after hearing about it at a college fair.

“They had a table at a fair my high school hosted. The gentleman at the NSU table knew so much about the school and was so passionate about it,” said Lero. “Any question I had for him he knew, he never had to look it up or stumbled on his answers. I could tell he liked NSU as well.”

After that, Lero confidently knew Northern was the place for her.

“Northern was actually the only college application I filled out,” said Lero. “My mom set up a tour of campus, and that sealed the deal.”

Lero’s favorite parts of NSU are its small class sizes and easily traversable campus, as well as the helpful professors.

“All the professors are so willing to help and to answer any questions I have had for them. If they weren’t confident on their answer, they would refer me to someone that could give me what I was looking for.”

Hobbies and Summer Jobs

During the summer, Lero works as an intern for the Aberdeen Development Corp. (ADC), as well as the ticket booth for the new baseball team in town—The Hub City Hotshots.

“I will have worked for the ADC for a year in August, and I’m fortunate enough to stay with them until I graduate in May 2019. The baseball job is just for the summer,” said Lero. “Both jobs have kept me pretty busy this summer, but it’s been enjoyable!”

Lero also enjoys traveling, especially overseas, and hopes to do more of it in the future.

“In Summer 2018, I went on a Northern faculty-lead study abroad trip to China and it was amazing. It was the first time that I have traveled overseas,” said Lero. “Since being home from that trip, I’ve been itching to travel overseas again.”

Lero also enjoys spending time at the lakes back in Minnesota, and spending time with her family and friends. She says her dream country to visit would be New Zealand.

Plans for the Future

After graduation, Lero hopes to find a job in either marketing or management, and to move somewhere warmer to escape the cold Midwest winters.

Although Lero isn’t quite sure what job she hopes to obtain in the future, she may like to work for a college someday, or a larger company.

“I tend to be relatively social, so I enjoy meeting and talking to new people. That is why I think I would enjoy working in a college or large company,” said Lero. “I think that after I go through my management classes I will have a better idea of what I’d like to do with my degree as well.”

As for the near future, Lero plans to join Northern’s Business Club on campus for fall 2018.
