Northern State University Department of Psychology and Counselor Education faculty members and students presented at South Dakota Counseling Association (SDCA) on April 28-30.

This event serves as an opportunity for faculty and students to present their research on contemporary issues in the field of counseling. This year’s theme was “Culture in the Changing World.” 

NSU faculty members who presented include Dr. Erin Kaszynski and Dr. Shalini Mathew, both assistant professors in the counselor education program.

NSU students who presented include Kate Campbell, Sarah Rozel, Lauren Nikolas and Michael Mohammad.

“Participating in and being a moderator for the SDCA Conference this past weekend provided me with a valuable opportunity to learn, network and grow as a professional,” said Mohammed, who was a graduate student moderator at the event.

Mohammad said he was able to meet some of the leading experts in their specific areas of counseling and further educate and develop his perspectives, approaches and theories toward more effective advocacy and counseling.

Not only did he network with influential professionals whom he aspires to learn from, but the SDCA Conference also allowed him to meet other like-minded practitioners and graduate students who shared in his desire to learn and evolve professionally.

As a moderator, Mohammad said, he was able to improve upon his public speaking/presenting skills as well.

“I would encourage NSU graduate students and practitioners in their fields to attend conferences such as this to become more competent in their profession.” said Mohammad.
