POSTED MARCH 16, 2020 - INFORMATION MAY HAVE CHANGED

Students, faculty and staff,

As we move forward this week, it’s important that we all understand the risk the COVID-19 virus poses to the entire community. The precautionary measures we are taking here at Northern have been done to protect not only our campus community but also the people of the entire region.

And these measures will be most effective if we all do our part. Even if you are confident that you would not be negatively impacted by the virus, you could transfer it to someone who would be. We strongly encourage everyone to take all necessary precautions, staying in as much as possible and going out and about only for essential necessities. The result, we hope, is to “flatten the curve,” or slow a potential continued spread of COVID-19.

Part of the precautions we are now implementing include closing campus to the general public (until further notice) and canceling all campus events through April 3. The Beulah Williams Library will also be closed as it undergoes a deep cleaning. Plans are to reopen the library later this week to Northern students, faculty and staff only. Also, Dacotah Hall gym is now closed until further notice. All buildings on campus will be locked at 6 p.m. this week.

No local cases have been reported in Aberdeen or Brown County. Northern continues to work with regional entities to monitor the situation, including as part of the newly activated Brown County Emergency Operations Center. For more information about this ongoing situation, visit our COVID-19 Resource Page or call the South Dakota COVID hotline: 1-800-997-2880.

Thank you once again for your understanding as we work to keep everyone safe and healthy during this time!
