ABERDEEN, S.D. – More than 150 middle and high school students from northeastern South Dakota will be on the Northern State University campus on March 15 for the National History Day regional competition.

A total of 159 students from seven schools will present 105 research projects as part of the competition, which will run from 8 a.m. to noon in the NSU Student Center and Missouri River Room.

This year’s theme is “Taking a Stand in History.” Nationwide, more than a half million kids participate in National History Day every year.

Students competing at Northern will come from Summit Middle School and High School, Sioux Valley High School, Waubay High School, Britton-Hecla Middle School, Waverly-South Shore High School, and Willow Lake High School.

Winners at the regional competition are invited to go to the state competition, and winners of the state competition advance to the national competition.
