ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University has partnered with Love Your Melon (LYM) to produce custom NSU hats. LYM is an apparel company based out Minneapolis, MN dedicated to giving 50% of net profits to fight pediatric cancer.

LYM was founded in an entrepreneurship class at the University of St. Thomas by two friends, Zachary and Brian, who wanted to start a business with a meaningful and positive social impact. The company strives to create therapeutic experiences and fund charitable programming initiatives for children and families battling cancer.

Northern Alum Taylor Schreiber, with help of NSU’s Communications and Marketing team, introduced the idea of partnering with LYM and suggested NSU's licensing department reach out to LYM.

“It’s important that we support LYM and their mission as both a campus and Aberdeen community in an effort to help all local children battling cancer,” said Schreiber, who is now a sales development associate at LYM. “College students are at the prime age to change the world. By doing something as simple as purchasing a Northern LYM beanie, we are able to make a difference at a local level.”

NSU's partnership with LYM is yet another way in which NSU honors and supports local families battling cancer. The Cancer Tree at the center of campus which is sponsored by the NSU Honors Program, as well as the Blackout Cancer Football game, have rallied campus and community support to help find a cure.

“We’re excited to partner with LYM, as this is a win-win situation,” said Justin Fraase, NSU Director of Communication and Marketing. “On one hand, we’re associating with a known brand that raises funds for pediatric cancer, on the other, we continue to expand NSU's brand across the region. I want to thank the LYM crew for selecting NSU as their first South Dakota higher education partner.”

NSU's Love Your Melon hats are expected to be available for purchase on loveyourmelon.com starting August 12 at 10 am.
