ABERDEEN, S.D. – The South Dakota Germans from Russia Cultural Heritage Center in the Northern State University Beulah Williams Library has received the Act of Excellence recognition from the South Dakota Hall of Fame.

In honor of this special recognition, Northern hosted an Act of Excellence celebration at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at the Isaac Lincoln Gallery in Lincoln Hall.

The South Dakota Germans from Russia Cultural Heritage Center, which opened in October, includes over 2,000 square feet of exhibit, research and performance space. The permanent exhibit traces the journey of the Germans from Russia to South Dakota and their impact on the history and culture of the state.

“The mission of this exhibit is to preserve the history and heritage of South Dakota Germans from Russia,” said NSU library director Robert Russell. “We host collections of documents, artifacts and recorded oral history interviews. We also feature temporary exhibits highlighting the lifestyle, religion and education of German-Russian culture.”
