Students singing in choir

ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Annual Spring Choral Concert will take place at 3 p.m. May 1 in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Harvey and Cynthia Jewett Theater.

The concert will feature the NSU Concert Choir, Early Musick Ensemble and Chamber Singers.

The Concert Choir will open with three 20th century American classics—Robert Page’s arrangement of Leonard Bernstein’s “The Best of All Possible Worlds,” James Erb’s arrangement of “Shenandoah,” and Randall Thompson’s “Alleluia.”

The Chamber Singers will then perform two double-choir settings—“Du bist der rechte Weg” from J. S. Bach’s “Komm, Jesu, Komm” and William Harris’ “Faire is the Heaven.”

The Early Musick Ensemble will perform “Madrigals” by Claudio Monteverdi, John Dowland, Thomas Morley and P.D.Q. Bach along with Palestrina’s “Sicut cervus.”

The Chamber Singers will then perform the three songs from Samuel Barber’s “Reincarnations,” “Mary Hynes,” “Anthony O Daly” and “The Coolin.”

The Concert Choir will close the concert with Sam Pottle’s setting of “Jabberwocky.”

After recognizing seniors and important contributors to the choral program—in particular, accompanists Hannah Gasperich, Cameron Gauger, Lora Toncheva and Tyra Steinwand—the concert will conclude with our version of Barbara Baker’s arrangement of “The Storm is Passing Over.”

Tickets for the concert are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors. NSU faculty, staff and students are admitted free.
