Children working on a STEM project

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University has created an exciting opportunity for third-through fifth-grade teachers who are interested in bringing more STEM lessons into their classrooms.

The NSU College of Arts and Sciences has developed a new STEM Kit program that will provide “experiments in a box” available for teachers to check out throughout the upcoming school year, much like a library book.

The kit will include everything educators need to run the experiment(s) in their classroom. Each kit is intended to offer one to three days’ worth of content and most will be targeted to a specific science standard. Kits will also include teacher resources and links to YouTube videos about each box to review the background of the experiment if needed.

“We are so excited to have another avenue to connect with area students and teachers,” said Dr. Amy Dolan, assistant professor of biology and STEM outreach coordinator. “We hope that additional hands-on STEM activities will inspire kids to learn more about the world around them and spark interest in future careers in science and technology.”

For more information, please email stemkits@northern.edu. Additionally, a website is being developed and will be launched later in the year.
