Pack Gives Back 2016

ABERDEEN, S.D. – On Saturday, Oct. 15, more than 80 Northern State University students and employees gave back to the Aberdeen community in support of NSU’s annual Pack Gives Back event.

The event took place from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 15. Following a speech from NSU President Dr. Timothy Downs, students volunteered at five different sites in the community, led by staff group leaders. Businesses/organizations visited included:

Aberdeen Community Theatre
Kids Against Hunger
Aberdeen Family YMCA
Boys and Girls Club of Aberdeen Area
Alexander Mitchell Public Library

Students and staff spent the morning assisting the businesses and organizations with various tasks such as cleaning, organizing, yard work and much more.

“I chose to participate in the Pack Gives Back because I felt that without the generosity of the community, Northern would not be able to strive as it is today. Paying forward some of the gratitude I, and many of the Northern students, faculty, and staff comprise, was a simple ‘thank you’ that benefited not only the business, but the volunteers as well. It brought out camaraderie, fellowship and delight,” said NSU student Elizabeth Katz.

Following the event, students and staff who participated were invited to a free lunch at Jerde Field, where all involved were encouraged to attend an NSU Wolves soccer game.
