ABERDEEN, S.D.–The NSU School of Fine Arts will be welcoming five new faculty members into the program starting fall 2019.

The new faculty are as follows:

Derek Decker, Lecturer of Art:  Decker earned his BFA in Sculpture from Indiana University and his MFA in ceramics from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, so he will ably manage those two areas of instruction.  He has served on the faculties of the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach, FL; Purdue University at Fort Wayne, IN; University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, IN; and Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.  Decker has presented and exhibited throughout the country, and garnered a number of prestigious awards and grants in his field.

Peter Stevenson, Lecturer of Art: Stevenson earned his BFA in Graphic Design, Drawing, and Printmaking from Atlanta College of Art.  He also earned a MA in Printmaking, Drawing, and Painting from the University of Wisconsin/Superior, as well as a MFA in Mixed Media, Painting, Drawing, and Printmaking from the University of North Dakota.  Along with his talents as a versatile teacher, Stevenson has more than ten years of experience as a professional interdisciplinary artist and curator.

Alexis Doerr, Lecturer of Art: Doerr graduated from Northern in spring 2017 with a double major in Art and Communications Studies, and just completed a MA in Critical and Curatorial Studies at the University of Louisville. This year, Doerr will teach classes in art history and digital media, while also directing the Northern Galleries. 

Kane Anderson, Assistant Professor of Theater: Anderson earned his Ph.D. in Theater Studies from UC Santa Barbara, MFA in Theatre Performance from Arizona State University, and BA in Theatre Arts from the University of Pennsylvania. As an accomplished actor and director, he has worked in theaters throughout the country. As an award-winning teacher, Anderson has taught at the University of Puget Sound and Pacific Lutheran University in Washington. He has taught courses in acting and theater literature as the first Murphy Fellow in Theatre Arts at Hendrix College in Arkansas. 

Jordan Jaked Carrier, one of Northern’s current faculty, will be working in a new and expanded role as NSU’s Lecturer of Theatre Design. This fall, she will teach courses in costume design, stagecraft, and introduction to theatre, along with continuing her managerial and creative design duties in the costume area. Carrier earned her BA in Theatre from Meredith College in Raleigh and her MFA in Theatre Design and Technology from the University of Georgia in Athens. Carrier has designed for the Alliance Theatre, Aurora Theatre, Horizon Theatre, Burning Coal Theatre, Theater of the American South, Deep Dish Theatre and Williamstown Theatre Festival.
